As part of their nationwide ‘Astounding France’ campaign, Galeries Lafayette in Biarritz has devoted part of the shop floor to an exhibition celebrating the diversity of contemporary art and that of yesteryear. Hand made bags, shoes and hats from the 50’s reflect the glamour of that era and sit alongside modern portraits, sculptures and textiles, which have been created by artists living and working in the area.
Biarritz-Bonheur art organisation founder and exhibition curator, the artist Jean-Loup Bezos said: “I wanted to reflect the univers francais with a collection mixing old and new.” Store director Anne Rousselle summed up the show: “French, fun and fabulous.”

All this fuss for a pepper Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 October 2007
Every autumn, more than 20,000 people pour into the Basque village Espelette to take part in a giant Pepper Party, a fête to celebrate the harvest of the shiny green, sweet and spicy Espelette pepper.

Local driver Anicet Garocoix was a popular winner of the 51st Rallye des Cimes. The rally began in 1951 when Sauveur Bouchet realised just how much fun could be had taking American jeeps off-road.
Bouchet and several friends created the now annual event, which takes place in the mountains in the Soule area of the Pays Basque.
Garicoix dominated from the start to win the race with François Hirogoyen in second place. Twelve English teams were among the 94 starters and six were left among the 41 finishers.
