Abee keeper in the Lot-et-Garonne who conducted his own
experiment to show that genetically-modified (GM) maize
was contaminating his bee hives has had his case
dismissed.
In July 2006 Maurice Caudoin installed three sets of
beehives at 400m, 1,200m and 1,500m from the GM maize
cultures of Claude Ménara at Grezet-Cavagnan (Lot-et-Garonne).

Routes have opened up from Bergerac to Manchester,
Edinburgh and Gatwick. The Manchester route opened in May
to delighted passengers. “I’ve been coming to the Dordogne
for 15 years, and this is the first time I’ve been able to fly
direct from home”, said one happy Mancunian, arriving off the
Flybe flight. The low-cost airline flys on Saturdays from
Bergerac to Edinburgh and Gatwick, and Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun
to Manchester.

The maire of Périgueux Xavier Darcos, has been named
Minister of Education in newly-elected Nicolas Sarkozy’s
government headed by François Fillon. Despite the double
mandate, a spokesperson for the mairie said: “He will
definitely be keeping his post as maire of Périgueux.”
In Bordeaux, maire Alain Juppé is now Minister of the
Environment and Sustainable Development and ministre
d’état. He announced quickly after his nomination that he
would not abandon his post as maire of Bordeaux, saying that
the local and national functions combine well. His deputé
Hugues Martin asssured residents that the municipal team will
be able to manage general affairs again.
Other maire’s to have gained a ministerial post in
the new government are Eric Woerth, maire of Chantilly
(Oise), now Minister of the Budget and Public Spending, and
Hervé Morin in Epaignes (Eure), as Minister of Defence.
