ABOVE; one of a kind Roger Constant points the way to his discovery. Below; the human skeleton found at Régordou and on display at the museum in Périgueux.

Lascaux cave is famous worldwide, its neighbour Régourdou somewhat less so. The history of Régourdou is fascinating though, and the Musée d’art et d’archéologie du Périgord in Périgueux has chosen to mark the site’s 50th anniversary with an exhibition of the remains and artefacts found there, and a homage to its remarkable discoverer, Roger Constant.

It possessed its own hydroelectric station for power, and quarried local clay to make its products. The owner, Mr Delomier, was a respected and generous employer whose name is still revered by older residents.

The association coccinelle, organiser of ecologial-themed fairs in Périgueux is organising the first such event in Beauregard et Bassac, on October 27 and 28, guided by the thought “another village is possible”.
The weekend of discussions on human rights and stalls to enable ecological living, starts with music from reggae pop kids ‘Kevin’ and ‘Eskeline’, on the evening of October 27 at 6pm. Dancing will be sustained by organic food, wine and beer.
The talking starts at 10am on Sunday with round table discussions on alternative energy sources, avoiding GM cereals and living a better life. ‘Resistant’ mayors join the proceedings, notably Pascal Deguilhem, mayor of Saint-Aquilin and champion of the cause.
