Iwas born in Düsseldorf and moved to France 16 years ago
with my parents. I now live in Marmande. I’ve just finished
lycée at Laure Gatet in Périgueux and did my last year
specialising in IT with the German option européenne. After
the bac, I want to travel round Eastern Europe by myself. I
have friends from England, Portugal, Finland, Italy and
Holland. I am in class with a Portuguese and a Finnish.

Icame to France with my family in 2002. I share a flat in
Périgueux with my sister who goes to the private Collège
Saint-Joseph. I’m in Terminale L at the state Lycée Laure-
Gatet. At weekends we go back home to Angoulême. After the
bac, I’m going back to England to study French and drama at
the Royal Holloway University.

Ihad to learn French fast to get to the same level as the
French kids. If you come to France, YOU have to fit in, not
be incorporated. My teachers all have their own ways of
teaching. Punishments for small things are a warning,
then lines, exercises, conjugations to learn, and in
extreme cases detention.

Minister of Defence Hervé Morin has confirmed that France will build a second
aircraft carrier… a priori. In principle.
Those two words have sown seeds of doubt in the minds of listeners, that and the
knowledge that France is far from out of the wood yet in balancing its budget and
bringing itself fully into line with the requirements of the Eurozone.
The French national budget has not balanced since 1977.

The annual dinner of the Dîneurs en blanc took place near the
Arc de Triomphe this year. All dressed in white, 7,500 people
sat down to dinner.
Started 17 years ago by Serge de Tourdonnet, they fell out
of fashion but are now in full swing again. The precise place for
the meal is kept secret until 15 minutes beforehand. There is
also a fall back rendez-vous in case the police outsmart the
dinners, who come armed with picnics and picnic tables.
Generally by the time the diners are installed it is impossible to
do anything about it.
