Treasures of middle-age Eastern Europe Print E-mail

The Ensemble Conventuel des Jacobins is dedicating an exhibition to the sacred art of Eastern Slovakia. From the medieval village of Kosice – Slovakia’s second village after the capital Bratislava, on the crossroads of Hungary, Ukraine and Poland, come some thirty miraculously-preserved masterpieces, of which the oldest date from the fourteenth century.
Together they attest to the originality and beauty of this art, produced at at a high point of Catholocism in Eastern Europe. The pieces are shown to their best in the Jacobin refectory, and in a context which reinforces their original devotional intent.
