My nine-year-old son is reading reasonably fluently in French
but hasn’t got a clue when it comes to reading in English. How
can I help?

We have already discussed the need to be able to
recognise the phonetic sounds of English letters and to
blend two or three letters together to get initial sounds.
Also the need to work on simple syllables, breaking up
longer words and building up short words into more complex
ones.
