Set for major expansion to many new areas of France
Cancer Support France has mainly
operated in four départements in France
over recent years, with outreach work to
individual cases across the rest of the
country.
A new branch in the Mayenne has just
held its training session and is ready to
support people in that area. Response to
recent publicity and from contacts through
the new website have put us in a position
where we can expand the service to another
eight to 10 départements. Key people are
already in place in all the following areas
but we still need a more help to take the
work forward.
Lot et Garonne
This potential branch
will hold its initial meeting on Tuesday
August 7 near Eymet to the south of
Bergerac. The meeting will start at 2pm and
last for about two hours. If you would like
to join this meeting please see the contact
details below.
Grenoble/Lyon
Our contact in this
area is currently advertising the possibility
of this new branch and we hope to move to
an initial meeting in September.
Gers & Haute-Pyrénéées
Information
is now being cirtculated in this area with the
aim for an initial meeting in September/
October.
Basse-Normandie
Our key person
moves permanently to the area in August
and after a couple of months to settle in will
be ready to take this branch forward. The
key town will be Avranches. Is anyone
interested in joining us to develop this area?
For any of these four new areas please contact CSF
Vice President Paul Martin on 05 45 303178 or
email

CSF’s latest regional branch in Mayenne
is now up and running and waiting to offer
both listening and practical support to client
members where possible. This is achieved
initially over the phone or by email. Where
practical, face-to-face appointments may
also be arranged.
Membership is free, so if you are
concerned about a family member, have a
practical query or want to talk about cancer
we’re here to listen to you.
So, if you’d like to join in, in any way, please contact
Dawn Campbell on: 02 43 90 24 11 or email

Dear Editor,
With regards to the article on page 21 (July
issue), are the congregation aware that the
Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum
concerning the Tridentine Latin Mass has
been published and comes into force on the
Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in
September? Is it possible to pass this
information on? The Motu Proprio is
available on the Vatican information website.
Assure the congregation of our prayers.
From two well-wishing traditional priests
in the Tarn
Although we have mentioned this in our
national news this month I thought readers
should know they are being prayed for. –Ed

Wet, wet, wet… dry
While tens of thousands of English
people wade around in wellies with
packs of bottled water, at least four victims
have succumbed to the fires raging through
South-Eastern Europe and daily in the Var,
according to a reader who sent us the
excellent photo on page 45. I hope other
readers will think of us when they have a
good shot to share. We’ll send you a bottle
of wine if we publish it – but only in the
paper. We’d love to use any other photos on
our website.
Such climate extremes may not be
entirely due to human fault but it is slightly
heartening to see how many people are
taking their responsibility for the planet
seriously, even when they’re having fun.
This issue’s central pages are devoted to
environmental initiatives, including some
festivals and happenings with a green bent.

Dear Madame Jeanne Livingstone,
With reference to the query from Andy
Meadowcroft (June 2007 issue) concerning his
interest in killing off magpies, as you state it is
important that he gets in touch with his local
town hall and they will give him all the
information that he requires.
I do hope that he does not wish to shoot or
poison these intelligent and interesting birds.
It’s obvious that he is not a lover of nature.

Dear Editor,
Your July issue featured the Dior Museum in
Granville as being a place to visit.
The gowns on show are certainly
fabulous but I would offer a word of caution.
If you have any difficulty walking or getting
about you may care to rethink: there is no
disabled access and there are many steps and
stairs to the exhibits. I am not disabled but
when I went I had just had a knee
replacement – I found it quite difficult to get
about. The exhibits are enclosed in dimly-lit
glass rooms, presumably to avoid fading, but
which make them difficult to see and the
information is on small cards, some of which
are on the floor so one needs to crouch, or
worse, to read them.
