This year marks the 150th anniversary of one of
Britain’s best loved and entertaining novels,
‘Barchester Towers’ (1857) by the prolific
Victorian author, Anthony Trollope. To celebrate,
The Trollope Society has launched one of the
most detailed websites ever dedicated to a writer.

In January 2007 a blog post titled “Black
Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours
a Year” put forward the theory that a black
version of Google would save a fair bit of
energy due to the popularity of the search
engine. Soon afterwards ‘Blackle’ was
created to remind us all of the need to take
small steps in our everyday lives to save
energy. It saves energy because the screen is
predominantly black and a black display
uses fewer watts than a white one: 59
compared to 74.

Raymond, Octave, Joseph, Barre, a former Prime
Minister of France, died in the Val de Grace military
hospital on August 25 where he had been ill since May. He
was born in 1924 on the island of Réunion in the Indian
Ocean where his father was a prominent merchant. At the
age of four his father was made bankrupt and shortly
afterwards left his mother.
