The fortified 12th-century church and neighbouring château in Plazac, home of the bishops of Périgueux until the 17th century, is in need of help. Classified as a monument historique since 2005, the subventions are not enough to pay for necessary renovating.

Town councillor Serge Lafond and his team are launching an opération mécennat on July 28, to raise interest in financially supporting the works. Contributions are tax deductable.

The fourteenth foire de l’écologie will take over the place Tourny in Périgueux on Sunday July 29. This event is of course an organic produce fair– full of bread, fruit and clothing grown and made according to organic regulations –but it is more extensive than that.

This year’s sixth Printemps des Bastides in Monpazier was a Scottish Day. The Claymor Clan pipes and drums marched through the town. There were talks on bagpipes, the history of tartans and kilts and the making of whisky. Attendees learnt about the local equivalent of the Loch Ness Monster–a dragon called Coulobre de La Linde which lives in the Dordogne river. Whisky tasting and dancing displays (Scottish and local) completed the event in the 13th-century Bastide square.

Steward Edwards passed over the ownership of the bar the ‘Entente Cordiale’ on Saturday June 10, to Scott and Shelley Johnson and their young children Matthew and Katharine.
Mr. Edwards and his wife Sue were the first ever English in France to own a tabac shop 20 years ago, and have since provided the village of Abjatsur- Bandiat with drinks, newspapers, conversation and conkers.
