Some of the brooding John Wayne atmosphere comes to
Condat-sur-Vienne between October 15–20, for the ‘Les
Harmonicales’ festival.
At this small town near Limoges at the confluence of the
Vienne, Briance and Valoine rivers, sexy bluesy sounds from
Joe Filisko are peppered with folk rock and the Brazilian
group, Um Trio Viralata, make a welcome return after three
years. Then there’s Jean Luc Peilhon, an harmonica-playing
legend. “He’s unclassable, whether it’s the chromatic or
diatonic harmonica,” says David Vincent, a festival organiser.
“It’s a concert for dancers and dreamers.”
Les Harmonicales, Condat-sur-Vienne, is organised by the
Association, Harp Edge. October 15-20. Espace Confluences.

The all-women’s group
Dialogos is set to

France, at the tenth-century
religious capitals of
Winchester and
Fleury-sur-Loire.
The genre is incurring
something of a renaissance.
“It became forgotten”,
explains Katarina Livljanic,
the conductor of the group.

The heroes of the pitch – over the generations

One hundred-odd years
later and rugby is still
the most popular game in the
Corrèze. Most towns and
villages have a team, and it
helps bring generations
together.
Until November 30 in
Tulle an exhibition filled
with rugby memorabilia and
photographs trace the history
of the game in the area,
beginning in the army in
Brive and the 80th R.I.
in Tulle.
Between 1904 and 1908
it spread to the villages such
as Bort-les-Orgues, home of
the now widely-renowned
‘Les Tanneurs’ team, to
Ussel and to Argentat.
