At the autumn conference organised by regional members of L’Alliance Végétarienne in Arreau (65), the emphasis was on responsible eating. The event attracted an audience of meat-eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.
The evening was chaired by Jacqueline Reignier, naturopath, fitness instructor and cookery teacher, with contributions from nutritional and dietary advisor, Hervé Duplan.
Jacqueline explained that quality fresh produce can no longer be taken for granted in France, given the advent of industrial farming techniques.

Three months ago, the inhabitants of Bouloc, a village in Tarn-et-Garonne, learned of a plan to excavate a 53ha limestone quarry between them and nearby hamlets.
Headed by property owners Mr. Daniel Bonnemaison and his wife, the locals formed an association to fight the project, because they feared its impact on the environment and the stability of their buildings. 80% of the commune signed a petition against the quarry.

Changes to Andorran investment laws are to facilitate foreign businesses setting up in the area.
Changes to the law regulating foreign investment are due to be approved over the next few weeks by the Andorran parliament, meaning that entrepeneurs can set up in the prinicipality without an Andorran resident having to participate in the venture. The move is part of wide changes set to adapt the principality’s economy to international standards.

Six hundred and fifty years later and the same Gignacois are gathered again in the square gazing up as the very same tower, under English control for almost five years, is set ablaze. But things have changed, and there is no joy, no freedom, no victory. On this night we all lose.

One distinguishing feature of the truffle season, and where the public can buy truffles – tuber melanosporum, the black diamond – is the extensive market in Rognes in Provence.
It is now the 19th year in a row that this village is preparing for the great annual Truffle and Gastronomic market.
From a stand which started with a local citizen offering his fresh truffles to the public at the marketplace in the run up to Christmas, the event has grown to attract more than 15,000 visitors last year, with some 120 stands. This year, the number of stands will be limited to 100, selling, as well as truffles and other delicacies, the famous fresh smoked Baltic sea salmon.
