Despite being under threat
of eviction, the volunteerrun
British Library in Lille
will open its doors to
borrowers at the rentrée.
The current building is
due to be sold and new
premises are being sought
for the 8,000 books, DVDs,
videos and the reference
and dictionary section.
A year’s reprieve has
been granted, so the
English conversation clubs
will continue, and library
still welcomes visitors.

The skies over the Nord
cleared for the European
Young Masters 2007 golf
competition. Some 100
players enjoyed three days of
play in glorious sunshine.
The yearly event is open
to all amateur golfers under
the age of 16 and was hosted
in France for the first time,
by the prestigious Bonduès
Golf Club in the Nord.

Several cases of bird flu have been detected in Lorraine at
Diane-Capelle (Moselle), where initially four swans were
found to be infected with the influenza virus A H5N1. The
authorities quickly imposed restrictions on all domestic birds
in the area, and reminded everybody that human infection
was unlikely.
