The PACA region, the Hautes-Alpes and
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, agreed mid-
November to put forward Gap as host for the
2018 Winter Olympics, with Serre-Ponçon

Finally, Brive’s professional rugby team has made it out of
the doldrums. It won its last home match before Christmas
with a staggering 71-0 score over the Spanish team, El
Salvador, from Valladolid.
This month the CA Brive has a tougher battle on its
hands when the Newcastle Falcons descend over the weekend
of January 11 to 13. At the time of writing, the exact date and
time had not been announced. Headed up by the great Jonny
Wilkinson and aided by Mathew Tait, Toby Flood, Jamie
Noon and the All Black Carl Hayman, this, the first home
match of 2008, is part of the European Challenge Cup.

More than 400 protestors demonstrated against the
SNCF’s decision to axe yet another scheduled stop on
the Paris-Toulouse line. December 11 was Uzerche’s second
demonstration with the protestors taking to the tracks in front
of the 2pm train from Paris in a pre-organised show of
dissatisfaction. As the train slid into the station at a snail’s
pace, Sophie Dessus, Uzerche’s maire, led the protest, saying
that talks were still on the table and the situation was totally
unacceptable. Uzerche station serves a number of outlying
towns, Tulle, Seilhac, Pompadour, Vigeois, Lubersac and
Masseret. The Paris-Limoges-Uzerche-Brive line has already
suffered swingeing reductions in service, as reported
previously in ‘French News’.

One of the few British-owned hair salons in the Limousin, finally open thanks to the determined Tracey Fleming.
Tracey Fleming’s a born survivor – a
determined woman. Styling away
with her scissors, she remembers:
“When we left the UK we told
everyone we were going to succeed.
Failure is not an option.”
Tracey and her second husband
Mark arrived in France in January 2003
with £800, three children and a dog.
“We knew no one and almost nothing
about France. Still, we managed to
muddle through.” Then when Mark
spotted a hairdressing salon online their
hopes soared.
