Three hundred and fifty hectares were destroyed by a forest fire on Monday, July 16 in the Var. The conflagration was caused by a public works engine parked on the side of the A8 highway that produced sparks and set plants ablaze. The flames quickly spread due to strong southeastern winds, high temperatures and low humidity levels. By the middle of the afternoon, the wildfire approached the village of Bagnols-en-Fôret, and firemen formed a barrier to prevent its advance. Before midnight, the situation was under control thanks to the effort of 560 firefighters from the Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Bouches-du-Rhône regions. French News would like to thank Stephen Norton for sending in this photo, taken on July 17 from his home in Cabris. He will soon receive a bottle of wine for his efforts.
