The new Hérault bridge next to Gignac is well on target to be
open by the end of this year. Once the temporary columns are
removed, this elegant arch will take traffic all the way from
Paris to Montpellier on dual carriageways. 45% of the €20
million investment has been provided by the state, with 55%
from the région.
Meanwhile the new lay-by at Paulhan, which was started
at about the same time as the bridge, has been barred and
presumably left incomplete on the A75. No date has been
given as to when it will open.

More than 5,000 visitors thronged the Hôtel de Région when
it opened its doors last month. Visitors were shown the
debating chamber, the hemicycle and given statistics on the
région. Schemes range from investing €57 million to protect
the coast line – especially around the mouth of the Rhône –
to buying 1,250ha of salt marsh to manage as a sensitive
ecosite.
The event was coupled with the annual associations day,
which attracted 1,200 stands.

The village of La Tour cu Crieu was expecting 25,000 people
on the third weekend of September for the Teknival. The city
planned a massive security scheme to reassure the neighbours
who opposed hosting the techno rave which included alcohol
check-points, drug-sniffing dogs and the presence of 60
firemen. Two families which live near the site were
transferred to a hotel and a few farm animals were evacuated.
However, according to ‘Ariège News’, the first day of the
festival passed with only a hundred or so partygoers.

website in French last month where surfers can vote for the
22 cities that will replace Parisian streets in the game’s new
board. So far, Montcuq in the Lot (64) tops the list with
39.432 votes. It is expected to take the place on the monopoly
board of ‘rue de la Paix’.
