The village of Martigné-Ferchaud, between Rennes and
Angers, has pulled out all the stops for this year’s Étincelles
Aquatiques, an open-air fantasy show, from August 11 to 14.
With 250 actors and the help of nearly 1,000 volunteers, this
14th year promises a magical blend of fireworks, music and
poetry, with the backdrop of the Étang de la Forge lake.

Almost the entire tourist trade along
the Emerald Coast – hotels,
restaurants, campsites, zoos, boutiques,
tour operators and local ferries – are
beginning to panic about the season,

This year’s all-Celtic bash in
Lorient, the ‘Year of Scotland’,
looks like it might be even bigger
and louder than ever, with 600,000
festival-goers and 4,500 performers
from every Celtic horizon.
The Festival Interceltique has
already set the record as the world’s
biggest gathering of Celts. For the 37th
time, the town will be awhirl for ten
days (and nights) with kilts beerdrinking
and all breeds of bagpipe, an
epicentre of the Celtic revival, with
musicians, singers, dancers and writers
from Ireland, Scotland, Asturia,
Brittany, Galicia, Cornwall, Wales, the
Isle of Man, Acadia and Australia.
