Claude Gewerc, president of the conseil régional was very
pleased on February 14 to inaugurate the new section on the
RD 1016 express road between Cauffry and Monchy-Saint-Éloi.
Four lanes, covering 4.5km, are now open to the 35,000 to
50,000 daily drivers. M. Gewerc has fought for this to be
included under the Contrat de Plan Etat-Région since 2001 when
he was maire of Clermont. The €14 million cost was eventually
provided both by the region and the state.
The roadworks have lasted for a year and a half so the
finishing of the project comes as a relief to everyone who drives
on the road.
