Want to find a satellite photo of a certain monument without
downloading the enormous ‘Google Earth’? Or perhaps
you are not sure where to find the desired object. On ‘Où c’est?’
the interested observer is taken straight to the monument or
landmark in question with a simple click. You can still zoom in
or out to locate the place within its country and continent.
The list of landmarks is not exhaustive; it includes 160
famous sites for the moment, and surfers can suggest others for
consideration. The listing (in French) is divided into ‘Monuments’, including the Pont
d’Avignon and the Taj Mahal; ‘Feats of Engineering’ like the Viaduc de Millau or the Suez
Canal, and ‘Buildings’ such as the Casino of Monte Carlo and the Googleplex. The ‘Nature’
category zooms in on such places as Ayers Rock and Loch Ness, while the ‘Diverse’ and
‘Unusual’ choices have some amusing views including The White Horse in Uffington and an
enormous phallic symbol in the grounds of a warehouse in central France. Each photo has an
accompanying description. The site is a classic example of where less can be more, avoiding the
need to spend hours circling around the landmark you are looking for on Google Earth.
