Carpet the floor in June with the fine leaves and mainly pink, blue and violet flowers of garden geraniums; they give a light and natural – champêtre – touch to the garden, and spread quickly to make dense hummocks. These are very easy to divide and plant elsewhere. Unearth the tufts with a fork and grab the leaves and stalks and pull them gently. Separate plants with your hands. Plant them straight away in fresh soil enriched with a little compost and plant them in a tolerably sunny position or, better, in midshade.
