David Lee was elected as the new president of Romagne International at the 2007 AGM held at the mairie of Romagne in the presence of the mayor Bernard Porchet, . David Lee is the first English president of RI. David worked in the UK in industry and local government for many years. He and his wife Sheila bought their house in Romagne in 1996 as a holiday home and moved in permanently three years ago. They have three sons and seven grand-children. In his acceptance speech he stated that his primary objective for RI will be to strengthen the bond between new arrivals and the French community. He hopes to build not only on RI's own established and successful events but also those organised by the commune, such as the May 8 and Nov 11 memorial days which now have a 50/50 participation as well as the July 14 celebrations. At the AGM, the outgoing president Marie-Laure Leauthaud, who had held the position for more than five years, was congratulated on her work for the association. During her term of office, membership has seen an increase from 28 in 2002 to 154 in 2005. There are 14 different nationalities within the commune of Romagne, and several of these are represented in RI, and its membership (which is not limited to residents of the commune) is currently more than 100, 20% of whom are French. The work of the association includes organising a number of regular – and extremely popular – annual events for the commune, such as the annual brocante, the Halloween party and the Valentines party. Other activities include helping new residents to settle and integrate with the local community, with guided tours to Poitiers, visits to other places of interest, an annual picnic, petanque, theatrical activities and Christmas carol singing.
