CANCER SUPPORT FRANCE - DORDOGNE SUD Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 December 2007
Established by and for English speaking people living in France, wherever their country of origin.
The Dordogne Sud branch of Cancer Support France (CSF) finally gained Association status in October 2007 and is now fully operational. This is the fourth Branch to be opened since CSF was established in 2002 at Benest, in the Charente; there are a further four branches opening within the next few months.
Eleven volunteers completed training in early December. CSF's volunteers are professionally trained under the ongoing guidance of Macmillan Cancer Support to listen and support those of us who have been diagnosed with cancer. The volunteers gain a sound working knowledge and understanding to help not only those directly affected with cancer - but members of the family or carers, who also often feel the need to talk to someone. Many of our volunteers have either experienced cancer personally, or have family members or friends who have.
The area covered by CSF-Dordogne Sud, stretches approximately from Brantome to Villeneuve-sur-Lot and from Castillon-la-Bataille to Belves. Listening support is available by telephone and contact can also be made via email. Visits to home or hospital by one of our volunteers can be arranged. We can also refer you to other recognised cancer organisations, which provide relevant information and help.
The principal aim of the charity is to offer fully trained volunteers to listen and be supportive. We endeavour to offer emotional help and, in so doing, to help alleviate the anxiety that cancer imposes on most aspects of our lives. Wherever you live in France, there is always someone at CSF at the end of a telephone, who is here to help.

70% of teachers on strike – maires resist child minding scheme.
The teachers are on strike in protest at the plan to “sedentarise” 3,000 of France’s 11,000 itinerant special needs teachers who operate Réseau d'Aide Spécialisée aux Élèves en Difficulté (RASED). Instead of moving from child to child, they will be based where there is a concentration of children with problems. Their pay will remain the same.
