Wrapping paper and the decorations that come with presents these days can be re-used. Cards are easily recycled: cut along the folds of those that are blank on the back of the design to send with a ‘Bonne Année’ message to French friends. Cut out designs for re-use as present tags or, if you enjoy collage, for pasting onto plain (preferably recycled) cards for next year. For the most inventive, cut out similar sized designs, paste them backto- back, punch a hole in the top centre and hang with ribbons as tree decorations. Undamaged envelopes can be re-used with a label. Keep the shells from all those nuts, bag them up tight in paper and put on the fire. Being full of oils, they’ll burn really well.
