The Printemps de Bourges, France’s
biggest, oldest and best rock festival, will
be packing them in from April 15 to 20.
Though the full programme is not yet
available, the Printemps people have just
revealed a few of the artists who will be
playing at this year’s festival.
The undoubted star of the proceedings will
be the enfant terrible of contemporary British
pop rock, Pete Doherty. The former front man
of The Libertines will hit town on Wednesday
April 16, with his new band Babyshambles –
providing that he is not in prison or in rehab.
Mr Doherty, described on some websites as an
“artist and peot” [sic] will be sharing the stage
with Brighton-based rockers The Kooks, who
apparently “set alight” last year’s NME
awards with their live performance.
Other anglophone interest includes
Sweden’s best band since ABBA, The Hives,
and the latest folk/rock revelation, Yael Naim.
The Israeli songstress plays on April 17.
For contemporary French music fans we
highly recommend Cali, Renan Luce –
modern chanson française – and Thomas
Dutronc (son of the famous dad of the same
name). Finally, the singing sensation and
winner of the 2006 French X-factor
Christophe Willem will also be in town.
Tickets for all the above artists have been
on sale since January 15. Full details can be
found on the Printemps de Bourges website.
If Mr Doherty does make it, we are hoping
that Kate Moss will also come.
