For something incredibly English, check out the Crufts website. The world’s largest dog show has given its website a thorough grooming to attract visitors to its annual bonanza in March. Visitors can view photos and videos of classic Crufts entries, including last year’s Best in Show winner, Willy the Tibetan terrier. There is audio content in the form of podcasts and Crufts FM, while blogs from the judges and exhibitors offer an insider’s perspective. The ability to book tickets online is useful, although this isn’t really the place to learn anything about dogs, apart from their commercial potential. The show is really enormous – Crufts 2008 is expecting almost 23,000 dogs, including 1,177 dogs from overseas, as well as over 150,000 human visitors. Dog lovers who cannot get to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham between March 8 and 11 can imagine themselves there by listening to live commentary throughout the event on the online radio station, with upto- the-minute information on the site. The gallery also includes photos of previous years’ winners and polls on the site give visitors the chance to vote for their personal favourites. There is a selection of FAQs about Crufts from the most straightforward questions to more complex issues, and full contact details are also listed.
