Henry Miller is Under my Bed: People and Places on the Way to Paris By Mary Duncan, Starhaven books, 2008: 166 p. paperback  The autobiographical account of how the author, a university professor married to a Protestant preacher, discovered the “sexual revolution” in the ‘60s, became a devotee of Henry Miller and, after transiting through Playboy Mansion West and co-founding a Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Moscow, eventually wound up in Paris. “Like Henry,” she concludes this chronicle of kicking at the traces, “I believed in living life as an individual, taking my knocks and having a hell of a time doing it.” |
