Dear Editor, We followed the GMO debate for many years in England and have just read the article in March’s ‘French News’. Why is the EU pandering to the USA? Who gains in Europe? Why should anyone be fined for refusing their biotechnology? Anything to do with Tony Blair’s two appointees to the GM panel perhaps? They are just another country, they should not be allowed to force Europe to bow down to them. Does no one else wonder what their agenda is? Like many others, I feel there is more to this than meets the eye. Britain and the EU should wake up and fast! Why should we accept GM in the first place? Why? Because it seems that everyone is frightened to death of American muscle. It is time they were told in no uncertain terms that they are not the only nation on the planet, and that other nations have the right to refuse their goods. This is all part of business, but they seem unable and definitely unwilling to accept it. Do other countries march in with their ‘spinners’ and armies of financial heavies to compel other nations to accept their inventions/produce/ideas? How far will it go? What are the potential consequences for the flora and fauna of a planet dominated by GM agriculture? A very useful source of information about GM is the Institute of Science in Society website: www.i-sis.org.uk Mr and Mrs A R Smith, Haute-Loire |
