From July 1, all cars in France must be equipped with a fluorescent waistcoat and a warning triangle (as is already required in Belgium, Italy and Spain – the latter requires two triangles). It is already an offence not to turn on the warning lights when immobilised by a breakdown or accident. Failure to respect the new law will bring a fine for each missing object.
From September 1, reflective jackets will be compulsory attire for cyclists circulating outside built-up areas after dark.
