Dear Sir,
Shopping in Germany is the answer if you live close to the border or get the groceries sent to you. You’ll find nearly all groceries much cheaper in Germany than in France, clothes too and even cars. Everyday food costs less and luxury food such as Spanish ham can be found for €90 per kilo (it costs at least €150 in France). Prices of new cars are generally higher in Germany but it is common practice to ask for a considerable discount (I bought a Volvo V70 at 16% less than I would have paid in France).
Tools are cheaper and there are regular promotion days when every tool is 20% off and if they don’t work as they should, you simply return them. They give you a new one or your money back without any questions asked. Try that at a French ‘brico’ chainstore...
We lived for 30 years very close to the border in northern Alsace and return regularly for several months a year to that region, so we know what we are speaking of. Glen Ritter-Coulais, Poitou-Charentes
