How about a war on ‘gotter’, ‘gonna’, ‘twenny’, not to mention ‘sortuv’ and ‘yernow’ after every third word. Then of course we have ‘er’, ‘um’ and ‘ah’ sometimes repeated during a word.
It is a fact that in the early days of broadcasting BBC news readers wore a dinner jacket. Today they appear on political programmes devoid of a tie.
