Cancer Support France (CSF) provides support and information for both those who have
been diagnosed with cancer and/or their carers within the English-speaking community
living in France. This support is offered by telephone, email or visits.
There are currently 10 fully registered and insured branches throughout France from
Normandie to the Rhône-Alpes to the Pays Basque. Details of their locations can be found on
our website below.
Cancer Support France is not a medical charity, it is run entirely by volunteers. British
expatriates from different walks of life, but all trained under the guidelines of Macmillan
Cancer Support. Some have either had cancer themselves or their spouses have and others
have counselling or nursing experience.
In addition to providing listening support by telephone and email, arrangements can be
made for visits to the home and if needed, there are French-speaking volunteers who can
accompany anyone who would like assistance at appointments with a specialist or at
the hospital.
Trying to absorb important information in a different language in a medical environment,
can be a confusing ordeal. It can help alleviate some of the associated anxiety if someone is
there with you to help with any questions you or a doctor may have and to assist with
communication with the French medical system.
CSF’s services are all free. The association is funded entirely by membership fees, the
generosity of the public’s donations and sponsorship with its fundraising events.
How can you help? Due to the considerable area covered, CSF needs more volunteers to
help with support work, fundraising and with the distribution of its literature, especially via
English-speaking outlets.
