Further to recent articles in French News about women's pensions, the UK Department of Work and Pensions has issued a press release explaining that "women pensioners could boost their state pension or even be in line for a windfall payment under special terms.  But they need to act quickly as the deal, which allows people to pay for missed National Insurance contributions at a reduced rate, will run out in less than two years." For the full press release, go to http://www.dwp.gov.uk/mediacentre/pressreleases/2008/may/pens066-060508.asp

which will lead you to

http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/resourcecentre/factsheets/home.asp

where two factsheets (one for people under, and one for those over State Pension age)  explain who can  benefit by 'catching up'  missed payments, and how to go about it.
