Dear Editor,
I am surprised to read, in almost every edition of ‘French News’, about the anger of our
English friends over exchange rates, transfer costs etc. It must not be that difficult to
understand what this is all about! The United Kingdom did not want to join the European
Monetary Union and these are some of the many consequences. They simply wanted to be
more American (independent) instead of being European. Also a lot of people think that
Britain is better off if it stays out of several European bodies but Britain does not ‘rule the
waves’ any more and are not willing to realise that this is history! It would be better for our
UK friends to make up their minds to which ‘side’ they really belong.
Living in France for three years now, I am happy to tell my English friends that I have
never lost one single penny in any transfer I made from Holland/Belgium to France, nor have
I been charged for transaction costs either in Holland or in France. I am quiet happy to be a
European Union resident.
