| Wednesday, 01 October 2008 | |
| New road safety rules are to be enforced from today. The law requiring motorists to be equipped with yellow waistcoats for themselves and their passengers as well as a triangle is to be applied in full from today. The waistcoats must be inside the car so that they can be used before getting out in the event of a breakdown or an accident. Cyclists must also wear yellow waistcoats outside built up areas and in poor visibility. Fines of up to €135 can be imposed on the spot for failure to follow the rules. The law came into effect on 1 July but a period of grace was granted to allow sufficient stocks to be available in the shops. |
