Robin has been our correspondent in the
Hérault and Aude for less than a year.
He moved to France with Sue, his wife
five years ago. “We came for the sun but
we stay because of the people.”

Three years turning two acres of vines into a garden with a 60-metre-long canal was
not only hard work, it most of all lacked any intellectual stimulation. So when the
‘French News’ slot came up, courtesy of neighbour Helena Frith Powell, he jumped at it
because of “that licence you get as a journalist to ask questions and get to see things
which are happening”. Highlights include being one of the first to see the new Musée
Fabre in Montpellier and the razzmatazz when the second tram line was opened.
Favourite subjects include the region’s Green programme, the transport system and
learning how France functions. Bad things – press invitations which arrive an hour
before the press conference is due to start more than 60km away.
